Isaiah Clark

Isaiah Michael Clark was a Black American student born on March 3, 2002, in West Baltimore and the younger brother of Keisha Loraine Clark. In January 2015, he was twelve years old and attended Calverton Middle School. His sister’s boyfriend, Marcus Washington III, became his basketball mentor.

Early Life and Background

Isaiah grew up with his mother, Mila, and Keisha, who was five years older. Between approximately 2012 and 2014, he noticed changes in Keisha’s behavior and presentation while she was being psychologically abused by Shanice.

Education

Isaiah was a seventh grader at Calverton Middle School in January 2015. He earned mostly B grades, with an A in mathematics and a C-plus in English.

Personality

Isaiah was observant, sincere, and direct. He noticed changes in his family members’ moods but did not always understand their causes. He was interested in basketball and self-conscious about his height.

Physical Characteristics

At twelve, Isaiah stood four feet eleven inches tall and weighed ninety-three pounds. He was self-conscious about being among the shortest boys in his grade.

Mila raised Isaiah and Keisha in West Baltimore and closely monitored Isaiah’s school performance.

Isaiah observed Keisha’s withdrawal during the years of Shanice’s abuse and her gradual return to a more expressive life after the summer of 2014.

Marcus taught Isaiah basketball in the Clark family’s driveway, corrected his shooting mechanics, and called him Zay. Isaiah responded to Marcus as a reliable older mentor who spoke to him without condescension.
